The chamber music programme will run from Thursday 3 January to Sunday 6 January and the orchestral programme from Monday 7 January to Sunday 13 January.

This year's tutors will be:

Peter Adams (conductor)

Peter is a senior lecturer in music at the University of Otago. He is an experienced conductor, composer and fine clarinettist.  He has been conductor and musical director for many groups including the Southern Sinfonia, Dunedin Youth Orchestra, St Kilda Brass and the City of Dunedin Choir. We appreciate his musical knowledge and ability to enthuse players of all ages.  More details here

Sydney Manowitz (concertmaster)

Sydney is well regarded in Dunedin as concertmaster of the Southern Sinfonia.  His training included study at the Royal Academy in London and the Julliard School in New York where he studied under Ivan Galamian. He has extensive international experience in orchestral playing, chamber music and solo work, and was lecturer in violin at the University of Otago.  He has a special interest in baroque techniques.  Sydney has an incredible musical ear and lots of patience.  More details here.

Mark Bennett (violin)

Mark is principal first violinist with the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra.  He studied the violin in Auckland with David Nalden before embarking on further study in London on a Royal Schools Scholarship.  He has worked with many professional orchestras throughout Europe.  Mark really knows his way around the fiddle and has a great sense of humour. Anne Loeser (violin / viola)

Anne is a first violinist with the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra. She studied violin and viola in Germany, was a member of the Orfeo Quartet, and has played in several European orchestras. She is married to Greg Hill, this year's brass tutor.  Anne puts everyone at ease and we enjoy her physical warm-up exercises at the beginning of each day's playing.  More details here.

David Chickering (cello / bass)Conductor David Chickering playing cello

Chick is associate principal cellist with the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra.  He studied in the United States and has held positions with several orchestras worldwide, including the Chicago Symphony Orchestra.  He is lecturer in cello at the New Zealand School of Music and an active chamber musician.  We appreciate his easy going nature and Hawaiian shirts.  More details here.

Susan Gill (woodwind)

Susan studied performance flute at Canterbury University and now enjoys a very busy life teaching flute players of all ages and abilities. She directs the Christchurch School of Music's Windpower. She is a casual player for the Christchurch Symphony and in her spare time enjoys travelling, baking and has been seen running in the SBS Marathon.  More details here

Ruth Brinkman (woodwind)

Ruth plays bassoon and contrabassoon for the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra.  She teaches privately and at Auckland University. She never seems to have enough time to spend in her garden which only seems to look good over the summer break! She enjoys reading a good book or two as well as tramping when she gets the time.  More details here

Greg without vegetables

Greg Hill (brass)

Greg is principal third horn player with the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra.  He studied at Auckland and Victoria universities and has played in several Australian orchestras.  He teaches at the New Zealand School of Music. He is well known at the camp as a composer and advocate for lesser known instruments including alphorns, car horns and vegetables. He is married to Anne Loeser, one of  this year's violin tutors.  More details here.
