Waitaki Summer Music Camp is an opportunity for musicians of all ages to play orchestral, chamber and concert band music in a relaxed, sociable and fun environment supported by experienced tutors.
Families are particularly welcome - each year we have parents, brothers and sisters playing together in the same ensembles
As a guide, you need to be of grade six standard or above. We don't have auditions.
Have a look at the music performed in previous years - this may help you decide if you would enjoy taking part. Please talk to us if you are unsure about the playing level, we aim to be as inclusive as possible.

Chamber music programme
The chamber music programme usually runs over four days but is not offered in 2022.
Each person is placed in two different groups with others of similar ability. Most groups play music from the standard chamber music repertoire, although less experienced players play easier music. The groups work closely with experienced tutors.
We aim to have balanced groups containing conventional string or wind ensemble instruments. We may therefore not accept all applications.
Informal concerts are held each evening, giving groups the opportunity to perform to a very supportive audience of fellow players and tutors. Those reluctant to perform are encouraged but never bulldozed.
We have a large selection of music. However you are welcome to bring any music you or others might like to play.
The orchestral programme runs over seven days: beginning on Monday and ending with a public concert on Saturday night.
A typical day includes sectional rehearsals, full orchestra, string orchestra and concert band rehearsals.
There is free time for players to get together to play chamber music or tennis, or sample the cafes and sights of Oamaru.
Each evening there are informal concerts and social events. Regular highlights include performances by our talented tutors (including a string quartet sight-reading music requested by their audience), a quiz night and, after the public concert on the Saturday night, a fun concert.
